Chapter 29: Uhud
At Badr - many of the chiefs of Makkah were killed. They wanted revenge and so brought a large army all the way to Madina.
The Prophet (SAW) had a meeting with his companions - the young ones wanted to meet the enemy outside of Madina - while the Prophet (SAW) wanted to defend from Madina.
However, the Prophet (SAW) agreed with the opinion of the majority and wore his armour to go outside Madina to Uhud to meet the enemy.
In this battle there were 700 muslims against 3000 enemies of Allah.
The general of the muslims was Hamza ibn Abdul Mutalib, close friend and uncle of the Prophet (SAW).
The Prophet (SAW) instructed 50 archers to stand guard on a mountain pass protecting the muslim line. They were told specifically - even if you see the Muslims win - do not move from here.
The Muslim army caused the enemy to retreat and runaway leaving behind booty.
Many people started collecting the booty as they thought the battle was won.
The archers on the mountain saw the battle was over and most of them ran down to collect their share of the war booty.
Khalid bin Walid an enemy who was waiting with his band of horsemen - was watching - when the archers left - he attacked from behind.
It was awful for the muslims - they were scattered.
In the middle of the battle - a person cried out that the Prophet (SAW) was killed.
This was not true. The Prophet (SAW) was being attacked from all sides. It was so bad that his teeth was broken.
Some brave and courageous companions like Hamza, Ali, Talha, Abu Dujana, Saad ibn abi Waqqas.

In this battle the companion carrying the Prophet (SAW) flag was Musab ibn Umayr. He was martyred in Uhud.
After the battle when the Prophet (SAW) saw Musab's body - they found he did not have enough to cover his body - yet he used to be so rich wearing best clothes in the past.
Among the believers are men who have proven true to what they pledged to Allah. Surah Ahzab verse 23
The martyrs of Uhud were not washed. They were buried with their blood. Two companions to one grave.
The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed over the martyrs of Uhud after eight years like a man who bids farewell to the living and dead.
