Chapter 26: Badr

The early muslims were forced to leave their families, homes and belongings in Makkah all to live in peace as followers of Islam in Madinah.

The Quraysh decided to steal all the belongings from the muslim homes in Makkah and planned to sell them in Syria.

Abu Sufyan the leader of Quraysh was to lead the caravan to Syria with all the stolen goods.

Allah (SWT) ordered the Muslims they would have to defend their faith, their belongings and their families.

Mohammed (SAW) led 313 muslims to a place called Badr where they expected the caravan to go through.

Abu Sufyan was afraid to lose the stolen goods, so he took a different road.

The Quraysh gathered 1500 warriors to fight the muslims in Badr.

Hamza (RA) was the commander of the muslim army on the day of Badr.

The Quraysh wanted their leaders to duel with the elite warriors of the Muslims.

Mohammed (SAW) selected Hamza (RA), Ali ibn Abu Talib (RA) and Ubayda ibn al-Harith.

Ali faced Al-Walid and killed him. Hamza confronted Shayba and killed him.

Ubaida and Utba injured each other, but then Ali and Hamza came to Ubaida's aid and killed Utba.

After the muslims won the duels - the big battle started.  313 muslims against 1500 Quraysh.

In the battle, Abu Jahl, the enemy of Islam, was wounded fatally by two young Ansari Muslims, Mu'adh ibn Amr and Mu'awwidh ibn Afra. Later Abdullah ibn Masud finished him off.

Ummaya who tortured Bilal (RA) was killed by Bilal at the battle of Badr.

In this first battle between truth against evil, the truth was victorious. 14 Muslims were killed for defending the truth.

The 14 muslims who died to defend the truth were called Shaheeds (Martyrs).

Allah (SWT) guaranteed Jannah to all the companions who fought at Badr. All their past and future sins were forgiven.

Battle of Badr took place on 17 Ramadan on the second year after arriving in Madinah.

Badr is the first battle in Islam where the Muslims were supported by the Angels in battle.
